brock // womens hockey portraits

Friday we were at the arena to do the team photo for the Brock University Womens Varsity Hockey team. The team was not going to be ready for the photo until about 4:45, and since we were there at 4:00 I figured if a few girls came early we could have some fun. We ended up getting a couple of the girls to do some shots for us. It was something new that I was trying out and I really like they way they looked. Definitely expect to see more images like this, but from a different team in the near future.

  • Hey Rick,

Those are great shots, and thanks for sharing the lighting recipe!

If you don’t mind me asking; what lens and settings did you have to achieve these images?

I’m arranging for some similar portraits here in Edmonton. Any information would be truly appreciated.

Hey Rick, great shots, and I love the concept. Two questions: Same question as Paul, what lens and settings did you use to achieve these types of images in the women’s portraits? On the hockey note and with syncing connection with these 580exii flash units, do you use a pocket wizard and what flash units do you use during a hockey game and where have you found to best place them. How did you start getting your camera fixed into the net at your local hockey games? Not a lot of knowledge out there for getting that pro hockey photography shot, even with flash.
    Thanks again. -Fred

  • Cool pics, really appreciate the fun lighting shot at the end! I coach a team and have been looking for some ideas for this years photos – the cookie-cutter ones don’t cut it anymore. Thanks again for the inspiration!
